Our dollar keeps going up

March 22, 2012 by Tricia

I keep watching our dollars value go up and up. I”m Canadian and our dollar has been worth more than the US dollar for a couple of months now. If I didn’t get paid most of my income in American dollars I wouldn’t mind so much, but with the conversion – often through Paypal who takes their own cut, I’m losing money.

Hmmm .. maybe I should just invest in gold bullion. Gold’s been staying high in value for the last year!

I feel bad hoping that the Canadian dollar falls below the US dollar again, but that’s what works best for me.

Walking the dog

March 10, 2012 by Tricia

I love taking my dog for her regular walk but tonight she was a pain to walk. She kept pulling and worse … she kept darting onto people’s lawns to grab sticks and branches or other things.

She was startling me when she’d run or dart to grab things. I guess at first I thought she was either startled or being chased so that scared me .. then when I realized that she’d just about pulled me off my feet and scared me just to get a stick behind a metal building .. well, that made me mad.

It was also kind of cold and windy out this evening when I took her out so our walk wasn’t quite as long as I’d planned.

I think one of the problems is that my husband and I have very different styles or rules when walking her .. my husband used to try to be strict with her when walking her but I think he’s slacked off lately or else my dog doesn’t respect his authority (I sound like Cartman from South Park now LOL) so when he’s been walking her for several days and I talk over she just tries pulling me all over the place .. but after I’ve walked her for a few days she walks by my side calmly without pulling .. so nice. Soon enough … I’ll be the only one walking her.

I don’t recommend the stress diet

March 10, 2012 by Tricia

I’ve been on a “stress diet” the last four months. I really don’t recommend it to anyone. Not at all, because what I’ve been going through stress wise is highly unpleasant, but there’s been one benefit that I don’t mind. I’ve managed to lose weight because of the stress that I’ve been under. Actually I’ve probably lost too much weight because of the stress that I’ve been under.

I’ve lost something like 35 pounds. I don’t even know anymore how much weight I’ve lost. I stopped weighing myself about a month ago when I’d lost about 30 pounds. My pants and tops have gotten a bit loser in that time but not dramatically so, so I don’t think I’ve lost anymore than an additional five pounds or so. Hopefully not more than that.

My hair dresser when I saw her last week could see the difference in my weight before I even took off my heavy winter coat .. so I guess it’s a fairly dramatic weight loss. However you’d never know it at home … my oblivious husband hasn’t said a word. I actually had to point out how much I’d lost … of course he’s lost quite a bit as well .. needless to say the stress that I’m going through has to do with my marriage. Sigh.

My hairdresser warned me not to lose anymore weight … but at the same time she was trying to learn how she can lose some weight of her own. LOL .. she kept asking me things about weight lose products like how does 7-dfbx work? and so on … maybe because I’m a nurse she thought I’d know about weight lose products too?

Anyway … since I have so much stress in my life and since my life is going through so many changes she decided to cheer me up and she offered to give me free highlights so I accepted her offer. So I went home that evening with blondish highlights in my short auburn hair and it looked great. Still does!

He started smoking again? Bad

February 25, 2012 by Tricia

My husband and I quite smoking in October 2010 – or at least I thought we had both quit. I know for sure that I haven’t had a cigarette for 18 months … but it seems that my husband started smoking again and he’s been trying to hide that fact from me.

Unfortunately for him (and pretty much everyone around me) I’m a super smeller – which means I can smell everything – fresh sweat, cigarette scent on your clothes or hair, bad breath from across the room, fruit rotting before it even looks bad and forget about putting a banana peel or apple core in the kitchen garbage because the stink is too much for me within a half hour or so. So .. how could my husband think that he could pull off starting to smoke again and get it past me without me noticing? He might as well be smoking a Cohiba in the same room as me some days.

Luckily none of the smoke smell is tempting me to start again. In fact it might be helping me to stay quit as it smells disgusting to me. I just wish my husband (soon to be EX) would stop lying to me. I mean, if he wants to ruin his health -fine – just don’t do it around me – and stop lying about all the other stuff that he’s lying about too while he’s at it.

A weekend with family – lots of family!

February 11, 2012 by Tricia

I just came back from my home town this evening. I only left home on Friday and I’m already back so it was a short trip, but unfortunately it was for a sad reason. My cousin died. She was the first of the grand children on my fathers side of the family to pass away. Hopefully it will be many many years before any more of us go!

I drove to Ottawa, my home town, with one of my brothers and his wife. I stayed over at my oldest brothers and his girlfriends house but the brother who I drove with stayed at a hotel because he’s allergic to my oldest brothers dog.

My Aunt – my only remaining aunt, was very happy and surprised to see my brother, my sister in law and I when we arrived at the visitation on Friday night. She didn’t know we were coming so I hope our presence gave her some comfort.

My cousin had been sick and in the hospital since sometime in November. She’d rallied and seemed to get somewhat better in December but she went downhill very fast last weekend.

I feel bad because I’ve sort of lost touch with most of my cousins. On top of that, being the youngest cousin in the family (first cousin I mean) I didn’t develop the same relationships with my cousins that my older siblings did growing up with my cousins that were closer to them in age. I mean … my oldest brother is 19 years older than me … and therefore several of my cousins are 10 to 20 years older than me as well .. I came a long a little late in the game. LOL Still .. better late than never and they were all happy to see me. I’m definitely going to make an effort to stay in touch with all of them from now on.

It was also good to see my oldest brother. I don’t see him often. Ever since my mother passed away I really haven’t been back to my home town – other than for my aunts 80th birthday celebration five years ago! So .. my two brothers, my sister in law, my oldest brothers girlfriend and one of my ex-sister in laws all went out for dinner after the visitation. We had a great time and a great dinner. Actually I think my ex-sister in law might have news … I thought I heard her talking to my other sister in law about a titanium wedding band … maybe there’s going to be invitations mailed out soon?

Ok .. well I’ve had a very busy and emotional two days. I think it’s time for me to have some rest. I hope your weekend is going well.
