CPU resources over used – trying to fix my sites!

July 4, 2007 by Tricia

Sorry for the lack of new posts lately. I’ve had a major problem with my web host. I got a message last Thursday evening from them stating that my sites were using too much of their CPU resources so they had moved all my sites and domains over to a slower non production server in order to give me time to fix the problem.

Well, I’ve upgraded all the WP blogs to the latest WordPress version and I have one of my websites running on Joomla so I upgraded that to the latest stable version too. That kept me busy for at least two whole days!

The rest of the time was spent going over just about every file in my directories to make sure that no new files or folders were added to my server that could be causing a problem. I got hacked once when I was with another web host and that caused a ton of problems.

I really can’t find a problem so I don’t know what’s going on. I’m still getting messages from my web host saying that the CPU resources are still high so I might have to move to a Virtual private server.

I don’t want to do that because 1. it’s more expensive, and 2. I’ll have to learn a whole new hosting system. I can barely keep up with my sites these days … I don’t want to learn a new hosting system!

Anyway … if you’ve been wondering why I haven’t been around you now know what’s been going on.

If any of you have had similar problems I’d love to hear how you solved them.

Use FriendshipFinder to meet friends and singles

June 28, 2007 by Tricia

If you’re interesting in meeting new people, talking to others online and perhaps meeting in real life you might be interested in visiting FriendFinder. It’s always great when you can meet new people from the comfort of your own home isn’t it?

FriendshipFinder looks like it would be a great site to meet people in your area. Whether you are looking to date or just make friends.

Just for the heck of it I signed up and did a search for women in Ontario. Obviously I’m not looking to date! I just wanted to see how many other women in my area were looking for friendship and I was able to find a few from my general area of the province.

You can do a basic search on FriendshipFinder without signing up, but if you want to contact any of the members that come up in your searches you’ll have to sign up to send them a message or to chat with them using the FriendshipFinder chat system.

Considering that I’m stuck at home due to my illness I can’t get out as much with my friends and I’m not often in situations these days where I can make new friends so I can see how joining FriendshipFinder might be nice in that I’ll have a few more people to talk with if I do make any friendship connections.

One nice thing about a site such as this is that it allows you to get to know someone first before you perhaps take a chance and meet them in person.

Members make profiles, and can put up photos of themselves so you can get an idea of what they look like and what their interests are before you contact them. Then, as I said earlier, you can chat with them online as much as you want before making plans to possibly meet in person.

I’m sure that by the time you actually meet the person you’ll feel like you already know them if you’ve talked to them a few times online. I know when I’ve made friends with people on the internet in the past and eventually met them it always already felt like I knew them.

Cheese Please!

June 27, 2007 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

gruyere

Did someone say cheese?

Hmmm if that’s a real photo that chunk of cheese must be huge!

Can you imagine being a mouse or rat that discovered this piece of cheese? It’d be like heaven. I bet it’d be trying to drag it to it’s lair or break off pieces to bring to it’s nest, ’cause if it tried to eat it all in one sitting I’m pretty sure the poor thing would explode!

A road trip out East

June 27, 2007 by Tricia

A few years ago my husband and I went on a trip out east with my parents. My parents were both approaching their 80’s by this time and while they would have gone on their own they appreciated the chance to go on a road trip with Chris and I. Plus, having four drivers made it much easier to travel!

We drove from Ottawa Ontario into Quebec, stopping in Quebec City to see the sights. Then over the next day or so we drove eastward until we reached New Brunswick seeing sites as we went. We mostly stayed in motels as we traveled but a few times we rented cabins and when we reached Prince Edward Island we rented a vacation home for a night.

Staying in the vacation home was great. I think we’d been on the road for close to a week by that time and it was nice to be able to do our laundry! The rental home was located beside a small bay and it was just beautiful.

Chris and I wanted to stay there for a few days, but we were the ones who had a limited time for a holiday as we had to get back to work in a week so we moved on and drove to Nova Scotia. We drove around the whole perimeter of the island … it’s not so easy to find a motel on the west side of Nova Scotia .. at least not if you are driving along the perimeter!

I’d never been out East before. I’d been out west several times – most often driving from Ottawa or Toronto all the way out west through the Rockies and all. So this was my chance to say that I’d been to almost every Canadian province. We didn’t go to Newfoundland – it was just too far to go in our limited amount of time. The ferry ride alone takes 6 or 8 hours I think.

Leaving Nova Scotia we drove back through part of New Brunswick and into Maine. I’d always wanted to go to Maine because one of my favorite authors lives there and bases many of his novels in Maine. Can you guess who it is? Steven King of course!

While in Maine we stayed at a wonderful Maine bed and breakfast. It was only two miles from New Hampshire so we had diner in one State and slept in another. The next day we drove through New Hampshire, Vermont and into New York State and then back into Ontario at Cornwall.

I really enjoyed that trip. The people from out east are so friendly and helpful. The scenery was just lovely too.

Of all the places we stayed on our adventure the two places that stand out in my memory as places that I’d definitely stay in again were the vacation rental in PEI and the Bed and Breakfast in Maine. I wish I could remember the names of each place!

I may be biased but I think pretty much all of Canada is beautiful. If you ever do come to Canada for a visit I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself. If you already live here, but haven’t seen all of this great country I suggest that you try to see some of our lovely country.

Take a road trip if you can, as you’ll see more that way and you’ll also get a better idea of just how huge Canada is!

A full head of hair is not guarantee

June 27, 2007 by Tricia

My husband and I have been together for 18 years now. It sounds like a long time, but it really doesn’t feel that long at all. Of course we haven’t been married that long. We’ve only been married for 13 years.

I was just thinking how when Chris and I first got together he had such a full head of hair I thought, great, this guys never going to go bald, he’s got so much hair!

It turns out that I wasn’t quite right about about my prediction. I wasn’t wrong, but I wasn’t right either. You see, his hair line is receding slightly. Just a little bit around the temples. Unfortunately that’s not all. In the past couple of years I’ve noticed that his hair has been getting thinner at the crown.

I blame it on his love of baseball caps. he used to always wear them and he’d tighten the band so much that it would always leave a big mark in his forehead when he’d take the hat off.

It’s not like I think he’ll end up bald or that he’ll need a Hair Transplant or anything, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he does end up with a small bald patch at the top of his head.

I guess there’s no guarantee.
