Do you shop at a bulk food store?

November 19, 2010 by Tricia

Over the past year I’ve been doing a lot of my grocery shopping in the bulk food store. Why? Well, it’s a little cheaper than the grocery store, and the bulk food store often carries organic products so the selection is sometimes better.

I buy things like peanuts, walnuts, cashews, and sunflower seeds and make my own nut mix at home. I also buy ground flax, organic honey and sometimes … candy. LOL

One thing that I’d like to buy during one of my visits to the bulk food store is dried acai berries. No don’t worry I’m not buying into the whole acai berry diet scam or anything … I’d just like to try them because I know they’re good for you. I’m just a little nervous to try them. You see I end up being allergic to so many things I’m afraid I might try acai berries and end up being allergic to them. That wouldn’t be good.

Do you shop for things in a bulk food store? If you do, what kinds of things do you buy?

Survivor is getting interesting – sort of

November 17, 2010 by Tricia

Have you been watching Survivor this season?

I have and I’ve just been shaking my head at how all of the alliances change from one episode to the next.

I don’t know why, but this season – Survivor Nicaragua- is one where I really don’t have a favorite character. In fact, I don’t really like any of the people in this season’s Survivor.

Everyone is just back stabbing every one. I don’t know … I just don’t like it when people play the game that way. I keep waiting to see if one of the two individual immunity idols will get played – they’re kind of like cheap life insurance in survivor. I Know Brenda was hoping that Sash was going to give her his idol in tonight’s episode to save her – but of course he didn’t. I knew he wouldn’t.

So for those of you who are watching Survivor .. what do you think? Is the winner going to be another woman? It’s been a female winner the last several seasons.

The weight loss club?

November 9, 2010 by Tricia

It seems that my recent success at losing weight – accidental mind you since it’s due to a medication I’m taking for something else – caught the interest of some of my fellow bloggers.

I’ve been conversing with a few blogging friends by email about their desire to lose weight and giving them some encouragement. Most of my blogging friends are simply cutting back on fatty foods, eating fewer calories, trying to eat healthier, and stepping up their activity levels. One or two are looking into things like diet pills and one is checking out HCG shots Austin which is some kind of hormone therapy for weight loss.

I guess you could say that we’ve started a small blogger weight loss group.

As I said my weight loss is caused by my migraine medication. I’ve lost about 18 pounds so far. I’m actually hoping that it slows down soon because I lost all that in about a month!

So much cleaning and work to do this weekend

November 5, 2010 by Tricia

Brrr it’s going to be kind of cold here in Toronto this weekend. We might even get a little bit of snow this evening. I’m sure it will melt immediately, but I still don’t like the idea.

I had been hoping to get outside this weekend to do a little yard work. I still haven’t tidied up my garden beds and prepared them for winter. If I don’t do that soon I won’t be able to do it at all.

If it’s too cold to go outside I’m going to spend some time doing some major house cleaning. As I mentioned in recent posts I quit smoking in October and by next week I’ll be a month smoke free. It’s time to start cleaning the nicotine off the walls etc!

I have been cleaning on and off since I quit smoking – especially in the areas that I sit the most because I didn’t want to smell nicotine and start getting cravings. It certainly doesn’t take long for nicotine to discolor things! I cleaned off our door and the brass colored Schlage door knob and it was amazing how much lighter in color the door knob was and how shiny it was too.

I bought a big container of TSP to clean the walls. I know it’s going to be a big job, but once we get the house clean – walls and all, it’s going to look and smell so much better in here.

So .. I’m going to be busy this weekend indoors or out one way or the other. Who knows maybe I’ll get to work outside and inside.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Three weeks since I quit smoking

November 3, 2010 by Tricia

Well it’s been more than three weeks since I quit smoking! Actually since my husband and I quit – our house is smoke free now.

We’re both pretty proud of ourselves.

I’m still struggling. I have cravings every day, but I try to ignore them as best as I can. I’m very determined to never pick up another cigarette again.

This week I’m also feeling more emotional than usual. I don’t know if it’s the medication that I’m still taking to help me quit smoking (Zyban) or it’s just yet another side effect of quitting.

I finally told my whole family in an email last night that my husband and I had quit smoking and that’d we’d made it three weeks and one of my brothers wrote back today with a backhanded congratulations. I’d rather that he’d just not said anything instead of saying something like well let’s see where you are next October and then a long spiel about how smoking one cigarette will make us start again before he finally said that he’s proud of us for quitting.

His email just upset me. I didn’t just quit on a whim. I quit for my health. I have migraines with auras and there’s a history of stroke in my family and being female … that’s three strikes against me for increased risk of stroke and also the type of migraine that I have is Basilar and it has yet another increased risk of stroke. Being a smoker just added another stroke risk so by quitting I eliminated at least one potential stroke risk.

Anyway .. I’m going to forget about my brothers email right now.

A friend of mine wanted me to look at this site that sells wholesale water filters so I’m going to spend some time looking into it this evening. I think he’s thinking of buying one for his business and he wants my advice about it.
