Need to book a hotel room for your upcoming vacation?

June 22, 2007 by Tricia

Planning a holiday or going on a business trip? If you want to save some money you should visit cheaperthanhotels.co.uk. The site has listings for over 30,000 hotels in 130 countries worldwide. It would be almost impossible to not find a hotel on this site.

Another thing that I like about this site is that you can view it in 8 European languages. The prices of the hotel rooms can also be viewed in the countries currency. See the Cheap Hotels in Sweden for an example.

You can book hotel rooms in advance, up to a year in advance if I’m not mistaken, or you can search for last minute deals.

When you are viewing the site in search of a hotel room in a particular city you can sort the search results by location, star rating, price, hotel name, and by last minute deals and year round accommodation. Once you click on a hotel you’ll not only learn more about the type of rooms available, but you’ll also be able view photos of the hotel and the hotel rooms.

There are listings for hostels, usually priced by bed, and serviced apartments.

Visit the site and check out the great prices for yourself.

Head hung low

Aquilegia

This isn’t the best photo that I’ve ever taken but I do love this flower. It’s a columbine or Aquilegia. Sometimes this flower is also called a honeysuckle but that’s a misnomer.

Isn’t it pretty? I love the pale mauve and the way the flower hangs it’s head.

I grow this beautiful flower in my garden. It’s a spring bloomer. Here in Toronto it blooms usually by mid May or so, and by this time of June it’s foliage is dying down and disappearing. In a little while you’d almost never know the plant was there.

Our C02 monitor is a battery eater

June 22, 2007 by Tricia

You know how they say that every home should have one or two C02 monitors? At least they do here in the north because furnaces are notorious for messing up and putting out carbon dioxide. Not that it happens often but if it does happen you definitely want to know.

Well, we have a gas and C02 monitor. It’s supposed to be able to run on a battery if the power fails, but ours won’t. We must keep it plugged in all the time.

Now, normally we do keep it plugged in, but if the power goes out for an hour or more – and it has been doing that regularly – the monitor starts to fail. I guess it just eats batteries for dinner!

Of course when the battery fails the monitor starts to wail and sends out a high pitched beep as well. It’s sooooooo loud.

I think I’m going to have to look for a new one. Perhaps by a different maker that doesn’t do this.

Oh yes, when the battery does run out on it’s own it almost always happens in the middle of the night. We’ve had more false alarms with this thing than I can count!

Anyone know of a really good gas and C02 monitor brand that we could try?

Our free monitors

June 22, 2007 by Tricia

Years ago, before my husband and I moved to this neighborhood and both started working in the hospital my husband worked in the computer trade as a technician.

He worked for a fairly large company that sold computer related equiptment – huge orders of systems and associated peripherals, would go through their warehouse. Sometimes there was something wrong with the equipment and it either didn’t end up being shipped or it was returned by their clients.

The company often threw out the returned equipment. Not always, yes they’d return it to the manufacture most of the time but for some reason it was too much bother to send some of it back.

Well that’s how Chris and I ended up getting two viewsonic monitors. One is in use in our upstairs computer room. It’s a big 20 inch monitor. It had fallen and it’s got a crack across the top. It’s screen needs a lot of tinkering to get it to align properly but once you’ve put the time into it the monitor works great.

The second monitor is one of the first Viewsonic LCD monitors. As far as we know it’s in perfect working condition. Unfortunately it’s always been missing it’s cord so we’ve never been able to plug it in and use it.

I’d love to find a place that sold possibly obscure computer and monitor accessories as I might be able to find the right cord at one of these places.

Interesting how we got some nice freebies though isn’t it?

Keeping track of my finances

June 22, 2007 by Tricia

As many of you know I earn my income through my websites. Whether it’s posts on my blogs, selling text links in my sidebars, affiliates, Google adsense or whatever else of the many things I do to earn an income.

Do you know how hard it is the keep track of everything? It’s not like I’m getting paid once a month by most of these companies. No .. I’ve actually got money coming in daily.

So I think I need to get some kind of financial reporting software. It would help me keep track of my income daily, weekly and monthly and if I found the right software it might even help when it comes times to create statements for tax purposes.

I’ve got to look into this further.
