The worst border we ever had

July 13, 2007 by Tricia

Last year about this time we lost faith in our Korean border. She’d been living with us for a few weeks when she decided to take the weekend trip to New York that the English as a Second language school she was attending offered.

Trouble was – she went to New York as planned, but didn’t come home on the Monday when we expected her to return. We were upset. We were scared for her!

Did she ever make it to the meeting area in Toronto? Did she get on the bus? Did something happen in New York? We called the school and the agency that had matched us up and no one new where she was. The guy at the agency said “she’s a young girl, she’s probably just out having fun”. Yeah, but the contract we signed with the agency made us responsible for her so if something happened …

We finally found out – when she called us on the Tuesday evening while still in New York, that she’d contacted a new york ticket broker on her own and got there by her own means and met friends who were visiting the US.

We were mad. She’d worried us and lied to us. She had told us all the week before that she was taking the trip with the school. Even that Friday morning as she left she told me she was meeting the other students for the bus to New York at a particular time.

After that it was all lies. She broke things and didn’t tell us, lied to us daily and even tried to steal food when she thought we weren’t looking. It’s not like we weren’t feeding her well already …

She pretty much finished us with our foreign border experiment. I know most people have good experiences but she was a head case. She even told one of our neighbors that she was was very rich and had body guards here in Canada … uh, no. No you didn’t.

I still get shivers just thinking of what she put us through.

I’m awake

July 13, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve had an awful week. My sleep time is all turned around – going to bed really late, getting up late. It’s been terrible. Of course when I don’t sleep at a normal time the sleep I do get isn’t all that good so I’ve been overtired too.

Well last night I fell asleep on the couch at about 11:30. I woke up at 5:30 am, but I feel like I’ve had a good sleep despite the fact that it was on the couch.

I’m up!

Cravings

July 11, 2007 by Tricia

You ever get cravings for a certain type of food? I get them every so often. I have a craving right now.

I’ve been craving bacon. Bacon and tomato sandwiches. Oh they taste so good.

I don’t even think we have any bacon. If we do, it’s frozen.

Yeah I know, craving bacon probably isn’t a good thing, but it’s not like either of us eat it very often. I think we have bacon maybe twice a year, if that. That’s not too bad.

What have you been craving lately? Are you going to satisfy that craving?

Neighbors could make selling home difficult

July 6, 2007 by Tricia

I was just writing about how the cost of real estate in my general area has gone up and up since we moved into our home 6 years ago. I figure that the cost of our home – if we were to try to sell it – would be more than double what we paid for it!

Sounds great, but when you realize that you’d also be paying double for whatever new home you moved to it doesn’t make all that much sense to sell if you are happy with your home.

Still, I might call our real estate broker and see if she’ll appraise our home. It’d be cool to find out what it’s worth right now.

Of course if we did sell our home the new owners would have to put up with the karaoke neighbors! OMG what a terrible thought … can you imagine if we were trying to sell our home and the neighbors started up with their Gawd awful singing and loud music! We’d never be able to sell the house!

Note to self – remember to ask the neighbors to be on their best behavior if you sell the house before they do! Well, if they are still into karaoke at that time.
