Facebook connections on and offline

October 5, 2007 by Tricia

My sister has discovered Facebook. I figured her daughter was on it, but I never really thought of my sister as the Facebook type.

Earlier this week we became “friends” on Facebook and nearly every day we’ve been sending messages back and forth. I think we’ve talked more online this week than we have on the phone or even in person in months!

Of course the way we discovered that we were both on Facebook started with a phone conversation. My sister had called to say hello and to ask me if I knew anything about the care of hedgehogs. She’d just bought her daughter a hedgehog and since I specialize in the care of exotic pets she thought I’d know something about them and their diet. Unfortunately that’s one of the few exotic animals that I don’t know much about. I was able to help her with the diet though.

The conversation moved on to a discussion about vacuum cleaners of all things. She really needs to get herself a new one. I know she bought a Shark about four or five years ago, but it doesn’t seem to work anymore. I suggested that she take a look a Miele vacuum as they seem to be a popular brand and I think they’re probably fairly reliable. It was sometime after that, that we got on to Facebook.

Oddly, later that evening we were talking with one of our old friends on the phone. Chris and I were busy filling out our Passport applications (we need them for our Las Vegas trip in November!) and our friend Todd asked why I haven’t added him as a friend on Facebook yet.

I’m used to having my online friends ask me to add them to my Facebook account, but not my offline friends or relatives! So it was really strange to have two people ask me on the same day. Well, three really because my niece also added me as a friend too.

I saw a sign

October 5, 2007 by Tricia

Well our neighbors finally did it. The other day I looked out side and there’s evidence that they got themselves a real estate agent because they now have a big For Sale sign on their lawn.

Yeahhhhhh! With any luck my Karaoke neighbors will move away and loud bad singing will be heard no more from the house next door.

I think I spotted the sign on Sunday or Monday, but so far I haven’t seen anyone going into the house for a viewing. That actually reminds me, I’ll have to look it up online (or talk to the neighbors) and see how much they are trying to sell it for. I think when they first told my husband in early August that they were going to put their house up for sale in September that they were going to ask for $275,000 which is kind of low for this neighborhood. Maybe they’ve raised the price and now it’s too high?

Instead of throwing out the things they don’t need they piled them in the backyard in front of their shed that’s attached to their garage. Why they didn’t just put in the shed I don’t know, but it makes their yard look trashy.

I’m of the opinion that if you really want to sell your house you make sure both the yard, exterior of the house and the interior all look as nice as possible. Of course I’ve never sold a home, but I sure did look at a lot of them before we decided to put an offer on this house. I know that the tidier a house looked the more interested I was – well if the basic structure and look of the house appealed to me.

At the Beach

Wordless Wednesday

Where I’d love to be right now.

I took this photo in early September while at the beach here in Toronto. I need to just chill out right now since I’m not really a very happy camper at the moment so the beach looks pretty good.

A European Vacation

October 2, 2007 by Tricia

One of these days Chris and I are going to go on a European vacation. When we go I’d want to go to England, France, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. I’m sure that if we can take a long enough vacation I’d add a few other countries to my list too!

We won’t be going for a long time, but if you are, you might be looking for Hotels in Berlin or perhaps some beautiful Hotels in Vienna? Try cheaperthanhotels.co.uk where you’ll find discount hotel room rates and you can book them right online too.

If you go to Vienna you might enjoy going on a wine tasting tour, or if you are there for New Years you should attend the Imperial Ball.

Me? I’d go on some hiking tours. I’ve learned of a hiking tour called the 7 Resort Walk in the Austrian Alps and it sounds like a lot of fun. It’d also be great exercise too. Of course I’d have my cameras on hand as I’m sure the scenery would be absolutely amazing!

I’m sure some of the Hotels in Vienna are quite old as well so there’d probably be some lovely restored hotels to stay in as well. I enjoy visiting historic sites and buildings so it would be very interesting to stay in a hotel that had some history to it as well.

I know that several people that read this blog are from Europe. What kind of activities or locations should we visit when we go to Europe some time in the distant future?

One last look at the lovely purple petunias before they start to die down as it cools here in Toronto.

Petunias are such and easy flower to grow. They look good in a hanging basket or planter on their own or combined with other flowers such as snapdragons, spikes, small hosta, and annual geraniums (Pelargonium).

I’ve found that butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds enjoy petunias as well.

BTW if you want to see a beautiful rose please visit my photoblog Breath of Life Photography.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

Update – wow, I was dozing when I made this post. Two weeks later I finally realize I never gave it a title! Duh!
