Walk the dog while taking a bike ride?

June 25, 2011 by Tricia

I keep seeing people riding by our house on their bikes with their dog trotting by their side. It seems like a great way to give the dog a bit of extra exercise.

I have to admit, we haven’t pulled our bikes out yet this year. My knee has been really bad this year. I was born with knee problems and now it’s turned into arthritis it seems. Yes I’m kind of young to get arthritis, but my leg bones aren’t positioned correctly – my tibia turns a little more outward than it should, so that messes up my knees. I have a feeling I won’t be riding my bike this summer – not until I get my knee feeling better.

My husband on the other hand would probably love to pull out his bike and go for a ride regularly. We live on a busy street, but in general the area is pretty good for bike riding, and if we wanted we could always get out the yakima bike racks and take our bikes to one of the fantastic bike trails in the area since we live near several fantastic interconnecting park systems throughout Toronto.

Our dog would love to trot along beside the bike. I’m certain of it .. oh and she’d be a fantastically tired puppy when the bike “trot” was finished. Perhaps she’d look all sleepy like she did when I took this picture of her back in January?

I want to get back to work at the hospital

June 25, 2011 by Tricia

It might be hard to believe, but I miss working in the Emergency Department at the hospital. Technically I’m still employed there as a nurse, but I’ve been on medical leave for over five years. I hope that I can go back one day soon.

I’m not sure what brought on this latest desire to get back to work, perhaps the fact that I was cleaning out my closets the other day moving winter clothes to the back and bringing summer clothes to the front when I came across all of my nursing uniforms. I want to get back into them someday soon.

I’ve also been to the hospital a few times this past month for some tests – MRI’s on my knees and an ultrasound on my thyroid, plus I somehow managed to get some cedar mulch in my right eye that had to be picked out in the ER, so yes I’ve been to the hospital a few time and I’ve seen lots of people that I know. Of course all of my old coworkers ask me every time they see me when I’m coming back and so on.

My Crohn’s has been quite a bit better lately so maybe it is possible that I can get back to work before the end of the year. We’ll see what happens. I’ve thought that before and had set backs.

I’m not getting any sleep

June 25, 2011 by Tricia

Sigh … It’s the weekend and you’d think that a person would be able to sleep in if they wanted to, wouldn’t you? Not around here … not if you’re me.

My neighbors toddler has been making a ton of noise next door since February. I don’t think I’ve had more than about three hours sleep a night since sometime in February. Believe me it’s really taking a toll on me. I mean, I have chronic pain and Crohn’s disease and no arthritis in my knee (who knows it might be Rheumatoid arthritis I still have to find out) so I should be getting a minimum of 8 hours sleep, not a scant three hours!

My problem, is that the kid starts crying or screaming at anywhere from 5 am to 6 am and then she bangs around the house next door (which is attached to our house as we live in a semi detached) yelling and thumping her feet all morning. Then, just when she’s going to go down for a nap at about 1 pm she often starts screaming at the top of her head and runs around their house slamming doors! Of course I can hear every scream and every word and feel all the vibrations from her running around and slamming the doors. It’s AWFUL! Everything that goes on in the morning is repeated throughout the day sometimes up until Midnight. This kids parents don’t even seem to have her on a regular bed time schedule.

We’ve talked to them about all the noise and they simply don’t seem to realize how noisy their kid is. Either that or they are totally deaf. They have tried to get her to be quieter, but in the last two weeks it’s gotten a lot noisier again. Now that the weather is nice I wish they’d just take their little girl out for a good portion of the day and tire her out. There’s a fantastic preschool playground that she could play in now that it’s summer time and I’d bet she’d sleep better at night if she burned off some energy.

Sigh … Maybe they’ll go for a two week vacation this summer and I’ll get some normal sleep while they’re gone. That might be the only way I’ll get some sleep if their little girl doesn’t stop making so much noise.

I might be looking for a new web host

June 25, 2011 by Tricia

I’ve been starting to think about moving my sites to a new webhost. I don’t really want to move, but over the last few months my sites have had a few CPU memory overuse errors that have resulted in my sites being shut down for a few hours and causing me to scramble to try to figure out what wordpress plugin might be causing the problem or what else might be the cause. It’s a pain.

The only saving grace is that with the company that I currently host with they only shut down the affected domain … not every single domain that I own in my account like other companies that I’ve hosted with in the past. That’s helpful.

It might simply be time for me to upgrade my hosting to VPS or to dedicated hosting. I can do that with my current host but in the mean time, while I’ve been holding my breath and crossing my fingers that no more problems occur .. I’ve reading things like this bluehost review so that I can have a new webhost picked out if I do decide I need to move my websites. You know, just in case I need to do it quickly.

Does anyone have some webhosting suggestions?

Murder Mysteries

June 25, 2011 by Tricia

Do you ever watch those murder mystery shows on TV where they try to figure out what happened to someone who was murdered?

I don’t mean a TV show, I mean more like a true crime show or a documentary or in this case it’s an episode of Dateline that I’m watching. It’s about a girl that went missing in Las Vegas and then a week later her body was found in a ravine.

I haven’t got to the end of the story but my guess is that the ex fiances girlfriend is the one responsible for the murder. Plus it seems she’s pregnant – but if I were the guy I’d have a paternity test because she’s acting so suspcious I’d even doubt the truth about that!

I guess I like murder mysteries, I even read novels that are murder mysteries or horror stories. Of course those aren’t true stories, they’re usually pure fiction. Do you enjoy a good thriller story too? Certainly not living through one I’m sure!
