I have awful sleep habits

Do you have good sleep habits?

Mine are horrible! I’ve never been an early to bed early to rise type of person. Oh and I can go to bed early and get up early in the morning if I have to – but if I don’t have to … well, I stay up late, typically midnight or later and get up when I have to and not before.

By this I mean, If I have to work at 7:30 a.m. I’ll go to bed at midnight and get up at 5:30 in the morning in order to be to work on time and I’ll get by on that 5.5 hours sleep just fine. But if I have a chance to sleep in, if I don’t have to work, or if I’m working later I’ll sleep later and I’ll go to bed later.

Since I’ve been off work on medical leave my sleep habits are worse than ever. I often go to bed at 2 or 3 in the morning and sleep until 10 or 11 in the morning. I guess it could be worse, but if I ever want to get back on a more regular schedule I need to start getting to bed earlier and getting up at least by 9. right?

maybe if I were to take a sleeping aid like Melatonin or something it might help me go to bed a bit earlier each night until my sleeping hours were little more acceptable.

    You would be surprised how many things can keep you awake – but I found out that after quitting caffeine and smoking, I could fall asleep easily. (Chocolate, Tea, etc have caffeine)

    Also daily exercise helps the body and mind to relax easier when you are ready to sleep –

    I’m a artist so I work late or just have a really un even sleeping pattern. I am more of a morning person but sometimes my work has me up late until about 2-3am. So I feel you, I would really like to get better at being regular but what can we do?
