I was just talking with my brother in law on the phone. He’s a school teacher in the USA and even though he’s been a teacher for close to 20 years he’s been having trouble getting a permanent shop lately.
His latest job is in North Carolina. School just started this past week so he had an interesting job at his new school and new home. Now all he’s got to do is find health insurance in nc and he’ll be set.
Of course his family lives in another state so he has to travel back and forth. He’ll go home on the weekends and then on Sunday evenings he’ll drive back to NC to work for the week.
I’d hate to live away from my husband and family all week and only see them on the weekends. I don’t know how he does it. I guess that’s what you have to do to have a job these days though.
Do you have to commute long distances to work … maybe staying over in a different city during the week? If so – how do you manage?

Commuting to work is horrible because it makes a 8 hours day at work seem like 10 hours especially when you have to commute on the 405 freeway in downtown Los Angeles during rush hour!

That’s not a commute that’s living long distance. I can see doing that short term only, while house hunting for example or while the house is on the market back home. Life is hard enough as it is, families have too much stress; living apart paying for rent and a home, or hotels and a home isn’t a good idea.
Best of luck to him.

Me too. But what can I do?

I used to live in london and would have an hours journey to work in the morning and once again on my way home in the evening.
I absolutely hated it. I had to change various trains just to cut down my travel time.
The trains were stuffed full of people who were all just trying to do the same as me and race to work.
I left London in the end. Moved to a small town and started up my own business.
You cant beat being your own boss and driving around in your own van, free as a bird. I love it.
