Wiped out after cleaning the whole house!

June 18, 2010 by Tricia

Boy am I tired. I’ve been cleaning for the last few hours.

Last weekend we bought one of those Swiffer sweeper vacs. I got it because sweeping the floor really gets my back aching. I don’t know why … maybe the angle I bend forward when I’m sweeping. So anyway- I figured that the sweeper vac would make cleaning up a little bit easier and faster and that maybe my back wouldn’t take such a beating.

Unfortunately our floors were pretty bad. I hadn’t swept for a while and we have a Labrador Retriever who sheds a lot. There was lots of hair balls and I thought that I’d probably be cleaning out the sweeper vacs filter repeatedly if I tried it for the first time with so much dog hair on the floor. So I swept the whole house first. Yes, our whole house is hard wood floors.

Once the sweeping was done I tried the sweeper vac for the first time. It worked great. I’ve heard that they run out of charge fairly fast (20 minutes or so) so I made sure to turn it off every time I had to move furniture out of the way so as to not overuse the charge. Even though I’d swept prior to using the sweeper vac it still picked up a lot of hair.

Oh yeah I also dusted before I started sweeping and vacuuming too.

Once I was done using the sweeper vac I got out the free wet pad that we’d received with our Swiffer sweeper. I started using it in the kitchen and found that it dried out by the time I reached the beginning of our dining room (just outside the kitchen). The wet mop did a good job, but I wanted it to do at least the main floor. They’re kind of expensive if you have to use two or three to do your whole house. So I got a bright idea. I took the dirty wet pad off the Swiffer and rinsed it off and then proceeded to do my living room and dining room, rinsing it as needed until I’d finished the job.

Once that was done I windexed our glass coffee table and a few other things in the living room and I was pretty much done … done as in wiped out.

I figure that if I use the sweeper vac every two days or so I shouldn’t have to pull out my broom again. I hope it worked out that way anyway.

All in all I’m happy with the way my new cleaning toys worked. I just have to find a way to extend the use of the wet pads – maybe a shammie or reusable micro-fibre cloth instead?

Now i’m just going to relax and watch a movie with my husband. Oh and look for some good acne treatments for a friend of mine who’s suddenly having trouble with her skin – but that’s another story.

Have you used the Swiffer Sweeper Vac? What did you think? Did it do a good job for you? Does it lose it’s charge too fast? I know it sure takes a long time to charge in the first place (18 hours!).
