Win a trip for four to Atlanta Georgia

September 10, 2008 by Tricia

How would you like to win a trip for four to Atlanta Georgia? If you are a Canadian resident you are eligible to enter to Win a trip with iCoke.ca . The contest is being held to celebrate the inventor of Coca-Cola – John Pemberton. Did you know that he invented Coca Cola in 1886? That means people have been drinking Coke for 122 years!

It’s hard to imagine that people have been drinking a soft drink for so long isn’t it? The first people to taste Coca Cola were residents of Atlanta. In fact the very first people to regularly drink Coke were customers at Jacobs Pharmacy in Atlanta.

I guess that’s why the grand prize in the iCoke contest is a trip to Atlanta, Georgia.

The grand prize includes airfare to Atlanta Georgia for four, 3 days and 4 nights hotel accommodation, 2-day Coke Museum passes for four AND $1,000 US cash! Now that’s a cool prize. Secondary prizes include Cineplex Odeon gift certificates and Best Buy certificates.

To enter the contest you’ll first need to register at the iCoke.ca website. Once you’re registered you’ll need 500 Coke coins for each contest entry.

If you’re a Coke drinker it’s easy to start earning Coke coins. Just look under the cap on 591 ml or 2L Coca-Cola product bottles or find pin numbers on special promotion materials such as iCoke contest cards. You’ll find an alpha numeric code – that’s your pin. Just go to the iCoke website and submit your latest pin number. I believe each pin code is normally worth 500 Coke coins, but for a limited time you can get get 1,000 Coins from PINs found on specially-marked 591mL bottles of Coca-Cola® products. That’s worth two contest entries!

So what are you waiting for? Go register at iCoke! Then go through your recycling to find pin numbers that you weren’t aware you were throwing out, or go buy a bottle of Coke submit your pin number and enter the contest! I’ve already entered.

Bee coming in for landing

September 10, 2008 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

A couple of weeks ago my husband and I and our dog went for a hike in the woods. I found these lovely flowers on a river bank, I think they might be Jewelweed, and as I gazed at the flowers I noticed that the bumble bees were hovering around the flowers.

I caught this one as it was coming in for a landing:

Here’s a shot of the bee in the flower. All you can see is it’s behind!

Another federal election? So soon?

September 9, 2008 by Tricia

If you haven’t already heard Canada will be having an election on October 14th to possibly select a new Prime Minister. Harper, the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party and the current Prime Minister of Canada has been running the country for the last two years or so under a minority government, on Sunday he decided to dissolve parliament and set an election date.

Don’t quote me on this, but I think our last three elections (in four years???) have resulted in Minority governments. That means the ruling party has enough seats to win the election, but not enough to hold a majority. It’s shaky ground whenever this happens.

I do find it kind of funny that in the US they take almost two years to build up to an election, yet here we call snap elections and within a month or two it’s done and over with. This election will only take 37 days from the time it was officially called till voting day on October 14th.

Take a quick look at what other bloggers have to say I think many Canadians are feeling as I do … I don’t have a clue who to vote for. I don’t really like any of the leaders of the three main parties, nor do I totally agree with any of their platforms.

Here’s what others are saying about the upcoming Canadian election:

Canadian Election October 14th … Like I Care.

Finally the election announcement we were expecting up here in the “Great White North” has come to pass. The trickster of 24 Sussex Drive, has exhibited yet another of his talents … that of chameleon. This is the guy who promised …

On the Canadian Election: Why You Need To Vote

One of the things I’ve been hearing a lot in the media is that there’s some idea of election exhaustion here in Canada. Not only are we approaching our 3rd election in 4 years, for the last year, we’ve been his with the US primaries and …

You know it’s a Canadian Election when…

Ed: It seems Ed Stelmach has taken a page from Ralph Klein’s playbook, deciding to play the role of pundit on the federal election campaign. And, whatever, I can’t criticize him for that when you consider that McGuinty and Danny …

Canadian Election Called for October 14

The party leaders by LeDaro They do it fast up here; 36 days from the announcement until the election. But then unlike the States, all the leaders are in place and well known, all of the policies and platforms ready to go, …

I love gardening and I love growing roses.

Each morning when I awake I wander to a window that overlooks my garden and I spend a moment savoring the view. Each day a new flower is blooming or somethings has grown or changed in my garden. It’s always a wonder to view.

One rose that I enjoy seeing in bloom is my Double Delight Hybrid Tea. Isn’t it just gorgeous?

Double Delight Hybrid Tea

I love how it’s petals contain shades of white to pink to deep rose. Oh and the scent of this rose – it’s lovely. Not too strong, just a pleasant rose smell.

Another rose that I enjoy is Souvenir de la mal Mason. It’s an antique rose and it has lovely small blooms, well small compared to the size of a hybrid teas blooms!

Souviner de la Mal Masion Rose

I can never seem to take a picture of this rose that does it justice though. It really is quite beautiful.

What’s your favorite rose or flower?
