Get an armless gate opener for your fence

March 6, 2008 by Tricia

Now that we have a dog I think that we’ll have to get a new fence for our backyard. I’ve always wanted to re-fence the yard and I guess I’ve got a good excuse to do it now.

Two sides of our yard has a chain link fence around it and those fences boarder on two neighbors. The third side of the yard borders our nearest neighbor and we have a tall wooden fence between us. That old wooden fence needs to be repaired every year and the chain link fence is too short. I’m certain our dog would be able to get out of our yard easily if she wanted to.

So I’ve started looking at different types of fences. I think we’ll either put in a tall wooden fence or one of those vinyl ones that look like wood.

As I was looking at fences I came across a website that specializes in Armless Gate Openers. Considering that I spend a lot of time working in the garden, carrying items like bags of earth and trays of plants back and forth I can really see the benefit of an armless gate.

They have both manual and power operated Gate Opener. The manual ones look pretty much like a normal gate but the post that holds it on one side pivots when pushed by your hand or as your body moves through the gate. There are other manual armless gates that have a post in the center and they swing around in a wide arc when they open.

They’re actually really cool looking. They look sturdy too.

The power operated gates are controlled with a hand held
Gate Operator device. You could have a power operated armless gate opener that looks like a simple small gate at the beginning of your homes walkway in your front yard, or perhaps at the opening of your backyard gate, or you could use a powered armless gate opener at the entrance to a driveway on a large gate.

I watched the videos on their video page and it looks like you can use a manual or powered armless gate opener just about anywhere! I saw them used in farms for swinging barn doors, gates on farm properties, gates on large residential homes and smaller gates at urban homes. The armless gate opener will work with virtually any type of gate material from vinyl gates to wooden gates.

The armless gates are easy to use and look much more attractive than ones with manual closures. They are also cost effective as they don’t require a lot of maintenance. The powered gates use a rechargeable solar battery so they’ll work in any weather and they’ll even work if you have a power outage since they’re solar powered.

If the armless gate opener sounds like the perfect solution for your home or work visit the site and take a look at the video page. There’s nothing like seeing these gate openers in action to help you realize how handy one would be!

In the meantime I’ll be picking out my fence and deciding if we’ll get an armless gate opener too.

The zipper pond?

I only wish that I had a big enough property that I could create a cool landscaping design! Maybe not quite like the zipper pond that I’ve included above, but something interesting and unusual would be really interesting don’t you think?

We did landscape our yard when we first created our garden. We put in build up raised garden beds pretty much all around the perimeter of the garden. We used easy lock stones. We also created an oval that is attached to the garden beds on one side and it juts out to one side and acts as a partition between the patio and the back area of the garden. It helps to create a garden room.

Have you landscaped your property? Did you do anything interesting? I’d love to see some photos if you have landscaped.

Those late night commercials

March 4, 2008 by Tricia

Do you ever find that when you’re watching TV late at night there’s more commercials for diet products, weight loss companies, Insurance for older adults and even burial policy insurance? There’s also a lot more commercials that are similar to infomercials yet almost as short as a normal commercial.

You have to wonder why you only see these commercials late at night or in the early morning hours don’t you? I’m sure commercial time is cheaper during those hours, but you have to wonder about some of the companies that advertise during those time periods too.

One time, when I’d first moved into my apartment many many years ago I was up late and I got caught up watching one of those late night commercials. I ended up ordering a set of pots and pans. I needed them as I’d just moved to my first apartment … but oh what a disappointment! The pots were made of aluminum or some other very light, very thin metal and they were brutal to use! LOL

Have you bought anything after watching a TV commercial and then regretted the purchase?

Dogs in the park

March 4, 2008 by Tricia

Speaking of capturing funny dog pictures! LOL

Now that we’re taking our puppy to the park on a regular basis it probably won’t be too long before we’ll see something like this ourselves. Midnight’s already got some doggy friends that we run into in the park and each time she goes we meet new dog owners and new dogs.

On Sunday we brought her to the park with a frisbee. She had a ton of fun playing with it. Unfortunately she mainly wanted to chase it and catch it and then chew on it rather than bring it back to us.

The frisbee attracted other dogs and it wasn’t long before another lab, a 13 month old, got a hold of her frisbee. It was cold out and the frisbee was made of a hard plastic that must have become brittle as it eventually cracked.

We took the frisbee away at that point as I was pretty sure that one of the dogs would end up with a cut mouth or something!

I guess we’ll have to get a softer rubber frisbee to play with next time.

It was fun bringing a toy to the park though. That was the first time we brought anything for Midnight to play with and it went over well.

Do you bring along something for your dog to play with when you go on a long walk or a visit to a park?

Working on new sites

March 4, 2008 by Tricia

I haven’t been feeling very well over the last few days, but as I’ve felt up to it I’ve been trying to work on some of my new sites.

One of my new sites is a home and garden related blog. I’ve already got a gardening blog where I try to mostly write about garden related topics but I’ve found over the last year that more and more home decor and home reno posts have made their way there so that’s why I created a new blog. The new blog will likely have more home than garden topics.

Another new site that I’m working on is shopping related. There I’ll talk about the latest fashion and make up styles, plus I’ll do posts about home decor, furnishings, appliances and give tips on how to get things done in and around the home so much easier.

I’m sure there’ll be lots of posts of interest between the two blogs and I hope that you’ll come to visit them when I’m ready to reveal their urls. No, don’t worry – the posts won’t be just wrinkle cream reviews although I expect when I talk about cosmetics I will discuss some skin creams. There should be quite a variety of topics and I’m sure that you’ll like the sites.
