Have you ever gone on one of those caribbean cruises? I’ve always wanted to, but I’ve been hesitant.
Why?
Well the idea of being out on the water for that long bothers me for some reason. I can swim. I’m not afraid of water at all. In fact I often say that I was born in a canoe (not literally!). I’ve been a canoist all my life, but it’s mostly been on creeks, rivers and lakes. I’ve also white water canoed and rafted.
So yeah, I’m not afraid of water. I think I’m just afraid of open water. The ocean.
I know it’s irrational. Cruise ships travel at night and dock in different ports during the day letting passengers out to visit whatever island their docked in for the day. So it’s not like I’d be out in the middle of nowhere on the water for a week or two.
One day I will go on a Caribbean cruise. I did promise my sister when she was sick that I would, so I have to. I’m just nervous about it.
Anyone else feel that way about cruises?

It makes total sense to be a little hesitant about being out in the ocean surrounded by so much water. Its kind of the way I feel when I go up in a plane. There is just so much space between me and total safety

My wife and I met on a cruise.
We’ve thought about going on another cruise to celebrate our next anniversary, but with all the trouble that cruise ships have had with people getting sick on board (there’s been several articles published about this and it’s not just one company but several) has kinda dampened our wish to revisit this method of travel.
Besides passengers becoming just ill, there has also been people dying due to the illness as well as falling off the ship (how, I don’t know) and not being recovered.
Hope I didn’t burst any bubble you might have had.

I know how you feel. I love the water myself. In fact, I live in Gulfport, MS which is nothing but open water. But just the thought of getting on open water for a long period of time and there is no land around is a bit frightening. I tell my husband all the time that I do not do cruises because of this fear but I will hop on an airplane in a heart beat ๐ I am sure I would enjoy but I just can’t get the courage to go.
