Teak furniture for outdoors

July 5, 2007 by Tricia

Don’t you just love teak outdoor furniture? We have a beautiful reclaimed teak wood table that we use in our garden each summer.

Teak is so heavy! The table that we have is maybe 2.5 to 3 feet in length – the top is an irregular shape so it’s hard to give an exact measurement – and I’d say 2.5 feet in height but it must weigh well over 100 pounds.

I oil it with danish teak oil each year because it does get a weathered look by the end of summer. The oil restores the table top and makes the wood look like new. You know when wood is wet and you can see all the patterns in it? That’s what happens when I oil it. The fine colors of the wood grain.

I love that table! I might even look for another piece to complement the teak table we have.

I love teak furniture, but it’s just so pricey. We bought an outdoor furniture set this year from IKEA – can’t remember the name of the wood, but I like your tip about the Danish teak oil – wonder if it will work with this wood? It’s supposed to be as tough and durable as teak, and it’s a darker wood, too. I’ll give it a try! Thanks for mentioning this!

We really need to get some new outdoor furniture…we have a lovely green plastic set right now! lol!! It’s so classy!! I want some adirondack chairs but I heard they were terribly uncomfortable….
