I love the idea of staying in a villa or rental home when I travel. Perhaps that’s because when I traveled as a child with my parents we always stayed in rental cabins, hotels or motels with dinettes, or rental homes.
It’s just so much nicer. You can relax, cook your own food, do your own laundry if you really want to … yes, much better than staying in stuffy hotel room.

I absolutely agree with you, many peoples choice villas or vacation homes (whatever your term) as their holiday accommodation, i think it’s been trend changed for travelers
