I love yard sales. I don’t look at the appliances really, more of the furniture and some individual pieces that would be a cool center piece or something.

I used to hire Cubans when I owned a restaurant years ago. These Cubans would tell me stories of how they would repair and use 60+ year old cars and appliances. When you live in a country with a limited import/export industry, it is cheaper to fix appliances than it is to buy one…..not in this country. Maybe you live near Cuba (he, he, just joking).

Grace, these weren’t retro appliances – not at all. They were broken modern appliances with burnt out cords and other damage which is why I can’t figure out why people try to sell truly damaged goods in yard sales. It would be cheaper to buy new than to try to repair some of the items I saw.

Broken appliances are sometimes sold as collectibles. Maybe they were retro 40′s and 50′s. They can be used as props for plays, musicals,etc.
