If the room is that tight, you might want to look into a wall-mounted toilet. They're about $1,000 installed, but they can save you 9 inches or so of room and can make things a lot more comfortable.

I have a tiny bathroom remodel and I'm planning on putting in a corner toilet and sink to make things easier, but my remodeling is complicated by a person in the house who needs things to be wheelchair accessible AND a tiny bathroom. :)

This can be a definate challenge. Bright colours are very helpful as it helps creat the illusion of bigger rather than a dark color. My wife and I redid a main floor powder room and put in a glass vanity and raised sink. This helped quite a bit as it looks very open. I hope these couple suggestions help as they did for me. I may put up a write up on the glass vanity on my site at www.backyardman.com to show you the glass vanity and the illusion of making things larger. Keep us informed as I will be curious of great ideas coming from another home decorator.
